Case study page

One research project told properly, from question to finding.

Taken from

Mauritshuis, The Girl in the Spotlight

Two weeks of scanning in a glass studio found that the background was not empty but a green curtain, and that Vermeer painted eyelashes the naked eye cannot see.

Finding 01

The background was not empty

Behind the sitter, where generations saw flat dark space, the scans found a green curtain.

Finding 02

There are eyelashes

Invisible to the naked eye. Macro X-ray fluorescence and microscopy found tiny hairs around both eyes.

Finding 03

The blue is the expensive one

The bright particles of lazurite in the headscarf point to high quality ultramarine.

The layout is the deliverable: hero, four facts a reader can hold, then findings numbered so they can be cited. The findings shown are the real published ones from The Girl in the Spotlight, kept short. The amber block is where your photograph goes, and it stays amber until it does.
