Room 12, low light

Works on paper are lit at fifty lux. A white screen at full brightness in that room is the brightest object in it, and everybody around you knows you are on your phone.

The image dims slightly in the night palette as well, because a bright photograph in a dark interface is the same problem in a smaller frame.

It takes the phone's own setting on first run and remembers the override after that. People expect that order. The palette is four CSS variables, so nothing is duplicated and nothing can drift. The image dims too, which most dark modes forget.
