Light is cumulative and the damage does not reverse, so the measure that matters is dose over a year rather than the reading on the day.

Dose is what damages, not the reading, and the difference matters: a case at 50 lux for eight hours a day is a bigger problem than a brief 200 lux reading. Warning at eighty percent leaves time to rotate the object rather than to write an incident report.
